ERADICATING MALARIA IS WITHIN REACH! Sunday January 26, 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Via Maestra 42 restaurant, partners with local church to assist global “Imagine No Malaria” program to stop malaria in Sub-Saharan Africa. The World Health Organization estimates 655,000 children die each year by malaria, far more children each year than any other disease. You can be part of the solution by attending the Feast for the Children. Luncheon held at First United Methodist Church of Santa Barbara; 305 E. Anapamu (corner of Anapamu and Garden Streets). Breaking News: live camels, donkeys, sheep, goats, wise men and shepherds travel from afar (actually Arizona) to view newborn. You can too! Anyone can take part and the event is free and handicap accessible. Warm cider is served to warm the heart. The historic 1927 sanctuary will be open for people to wander/sit amongst it's decorated splendor. Not everyone is connecting with the celebration of the season. Many are feeling blue – living with the loss of a loved one, depression, broken relationships, loneliness or just the need to step away from the chaos of the season. The First United Methodist Church will hold a Service of Comfort and Hope on Thursday, December 12th at 7:00 pm. The service will acknowledge the pain and look toward the hope to come through music, scripture, prayer and candlelight. All are welcome to come as you are! The First United Methodist Church is located at the corner of Garden and Anapamu Streets, one block from the SB Courthouse. We all have so much to be thankful for. Freedom of religion is one of them. Come to this special Interfaith Thanksgiving service sponsored by the Greater Santa Barbara Clergy Association at 7 pm, Tuesday, Nov. 26th at the First United Methodist Church (corner of Anapamu and Garden Streets). The service is led by the spiritual leaders of the various local communities of faith and includes religious expressions of "thanksgiving" derived from the different faith traditions. Jewish, Buddhist, Islamic, Hindu, Universalist, and Catholic and Protestant traditions will represent elements of the service. This year’s guest speaker will be Jon G. Lemmond, Ph.D., Associate Pastor of Montecito Covenant Church and Adjunct Professor at Westmont College. The free-will offering will go to The Safe Parking Program, which provides safe, overnight parking for individuals and families living in their vehicles. There will be a light reception following the service. The community is invited to join in this inspiring and meaningful celebration!   Email

Please join us for a Good Friday service of meditation on the Seven Last Words of Christ from the Cross. The one hour service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 21 E. Constance Street, Santa Barbara, at 12 noon on Friday, March 29th. Meditations will be offered by pastors from various churches of our community, Trinity Lutheran, First United Methodist, Church of Christ, First Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church, and the Samarkand and the Interfaith Initiative.

She is a nun at Vedanta Society of Sarada Convent in Santa Barbara and also a well known author, speaker and scholar on Hinduism and has given talks at several universities and interfaith gatherings. She was a co-speaker with the 14th Dalai Lama at the Interfaith Conference in San Francisco in 2006.   Email   Website

The Greater Santa Barbara Area Clergy Association (GSBAC), sponsor if this event, includes clergy and religious leaders from over 100 local faith communities; and is dedicated to fostering mutual understanding, tolerance and appreciation among all faith communities. ----- This service doesn't feel "churchy". 2:00 P.M. Sunday, Oct. 30th. Free performance of The Man From Aldersgate! John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church, traveled throughout Great Britain on horseback and preached 42,000 sermons. Actor Roger Nelson travels throughout the world on an airplane bringing John Wesley back to life for his audiences. He has given over 1,400 performances in 32 countries and all 50 states, including venues like Carnegie Hall, the Pasadena Playhouse, Shakespeare Centre at Stratford-Upon-Avon, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Stratford Festival Theatre in Canada, Oxford University, and Wesley’s Chapel in London.  Email   Website

Elements of this service will be represented by Islamic, Hindu, Universalist, Jewish, Catholic and Protestant traditions and will include an Interfaith Choir. Guest speaker Imam Yama Niazi, of the Islamic Society of Santa Barbara will speak on "Gratitude and Thanksgiving". A volunteer offering will go to the Freedom Warming Centers to help the homeless find shelter this rainy season. Supplies are urgently needed for the assembly of much needed health kits for the people surviving on the streets of Haiti. These kits will be sent for immediate distribution to the relief effort in Haiti. Health kits provide basic necessities to those affected by natural disasters or human conflict. How can you help? Please bring INDIVIDUAL ITEMS OR COMPLETED HEALTH KITS to the First United Methodist Church office, 305 E. Anapamu Street by noon, Sunday, January 31 so that the kits can be assembled and packaged by church youth and then sent for immediate distribution. For more info call: 963-3579.
