   A combination of distinctive features makes the Oxnard Performing Arts & Convention Center the ideal Complex for business meetings, trade shows, seminars and many other events. With its spacious theater and eight additional meetings rooms, the Oxnard Performing Arts & Convention Center can easily handle the needs of any group up to 3, 500 - 4,000 persons. And, the network of enclosed patios provides the perfect setting for private community events, including weddings, receptions, banquets and more. Free parking for approximately 500 vehicles is available immediately adjacent to the Oxnard Performing Arts & Convention Center, plus limited additional parking is nearby.
    As one of the larger theater's in western Ventura County, the Oxnard Performing Arts & Convention Center provides outstanding entertainment opportunities to Ventura County residents and visitors. Consisting of 1,604 seats, the theater provides a convenient location for numerous cultural , educational and entertainment opportunities.
    Since its opening in March 1968, the Oxnard Performing Arts & Convention Center has hosted thousands of performances reaching more than 3 million people. Outstanding Broadway musicals, prominent guest speakers, and musical acts and plays have all graced the center's stage.
    In 1996, the center was completely refurbished after serving its first twenty-eight years as the "Oxnard Civic Auditorium" and has been upgraded to meet future community cultural and artistic needs.

Guests are always welcome at our meetings! They are held on the first Wednesday of the month (excluding holidays) at 7:30 PM. The format includes an educational presentation, followed by refreshments, and a short business meeting.
The Oxnard Gem & Mineral Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1961. The goals of the club are to enrich the lives of the community and the surrounding areas by promoting popular interest and knowledge in geology, mineralogy, lapidary and similar sciences. We are affiliated with the California Federation of Mineralogical Societies, and the national American Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
Our activities include: A meeting the first Wednesday of the month; Our Gem & Mineral Show occurs in November; Through the City of Oxnard, Department of Recreation, we offer classes for our members and the public; We arrange field trips to hunt for rocks.
Currently, the three Ventura County Gem and Mineral Societies are working together to build and collect rocks for over 300 “Rock Boxes”. These boxes will be distributed to Ventura County Public Schools and the Ventura County Library. The Rock Boxes will be used by county educators to teach and get students interested in Earth Science.

Four Celtic Voices members, Celeste Ray (double-bowed psaltery, vocals), Maria Banks (harp), Carol Crittenden (vocals) and Alison Crossley (flute) reflect the wide variety of skills and backgrounds found in contemporary Celtic music. Their acclaimed performances as individual performers span the globe, including appearances at Carnegie Hall with Maestro John Rutter (Ray), concert soloist with the Syracuse Symphony (Banks), the New Vic Theatre of London (Crittenden) and the Tribeca Film Festival (Crossley). The ensemble performs a diverse mix of material, including pillars of the genre such as “Danny Boy,” traditional jigs and reels, Irish poetry and original material composed by Ray. Their album “Four Leaf Clover” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard World Music Chart (2009)
The Oxnard Community Concert Association (“OCCA”) is a non-profit volunteer organization that has been providing affordable musical arts presentations in the Ventura County since 1945. It operates on a yearly basis, providing five varied performances each year at an average cost of less than $20 per presentation per member.

3/11/14 - Professional Boxing Returns to Ventura County on March 15 at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center

Top Players Promotions is thrilled to announce that professional boxing will once again return to Ventura County with the highly anticipated event, ICE VS. FIRE II at the Oxnard Performing Arts and Convention Center on Saturday, March 15, 2014.
After their successful promotional debut that took place last summer in Ventura, and was the first professional boxing event to take place in that city in almost a decade, Top Players Promotions is back for another round of action this time offering two title fights. In the main event, Russian Super Middleweight, MAKSIM VLASOV (28-1, 14 KOS), will fight for the vacant NABO Super Middleweight Title against Capitol Heights, Maryland’s HENRY BUCHANAN (21-3, 14 KOS).
Currently ranked #4 in the super middleweight division by the IBF, Vlasov, who trains out of Ventura County, will move into contention for a world title shot if he can score a victory against the hard hitting Buchanan. In the co-main event, MAUREEN SHEA (22-2, 11 KOS), will fight for the WBO Interim Women’s Featherweight World Championship. Shea, who lives and fights out of Ventura, California, is considered one of the best female featherweight fighters in the world. Known for her work as the chief sparring partner for Hilary Swank in the Academy Award winning film, Million Dollar Baby, Shea originally from New York City, will be fighting in Southern California for the first time.

1/17/14 - Save the Date! Ventura County's 28th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day -- 1/20

The 28th annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., birthday celebration will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014, at 9 a.m. in the auditorium of the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way. The theme is “Fifty Years After the March on Washington—The Struggle Continues.”
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Ingrid Dineen-Wimberly, historian and author of numerous articles and book chapters related to African American leadership and identity during the 19th and 20th centuries. Her most recent book, By the Least Bit of Blood: the Allure of Blackness among Mixed-Race Americans, 1862-1919, will be released in 2014. With 20 years of teaching experience, she currently teaches history and political science at the University of La Verne, Point Mugu Campus.
On Monday, January 20, 2014, the day will begin with a Freedom March from Plaza Park at Fifth and “C” Streets. Community members, elected officials and spiritual leaders will assemble at the park for prayer at 8 a.m.; the march will begin at 8:15 a.m. and proceed to the Oxnard Performing Arts Center. Transportation is available to Plaza Park from the Performing Arts Center parking lot for the march only.
The program will begin at 9 a.m. and will feature youth speakers, scripture readings, and inspirational music by the MLK Youth Choir. The youth choir will be directed by Mrs. Mary Ann Woodard, Director of the after school music programs for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme. The choir participation is open to all children, young adults, choir directors, and musicians. Rehearsals will be held on Saturdays, January 11 and 18, 2014, 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Music Room of the Boys and Girls Club. The club is located at 1900 W. 5th Street in Oxnard. Included in the MLK day will be an activity created to motivate low-income and first generation middle and high school students in the Ventura County area through an educational resource fair, college readiness mini-workshops, and a community dialogue during the MLK Day of Service beginning at 12 noon. The activity is being sponsored by the CEDC, which is a private non-profit community development corporation that provides comprehensive housing services through a community building approach in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. This activity builds on the work CEDC has carried out to engage young people in planning early to attain higher education and getting informed about programs available in the community and local institutions to make their educational dreams into a reality. Parents are also encouraged to participate along with their children, and there is no charge for the workshops and resource fair. Tickets for the program are $7 and are available at the Performing Arts Center box office (486-2424) or from any member of the MLK, Jr., Committee. As in previous years, this year’s program promises to be an inspirational, informative, and enjoyable experience; and we invite everyone to be a part of the activities and celebration of Rev. Dr. King’s life and legacy.

If Jesse Lynch sounds and looks familiar, this is probably because he is no stranger to Live On Stage Audiences. Jesse has been on tour through the United States in well over 100 engagements in performance with Daniel Rodriguez and The American Tenors.
As a pianist, composer, arranger, improviser, and educator, Jesse Lynch regularly performs in any number of musical styles. From Beethoven to Bop, to free jazz and contemporary composition, he regularly straddles the spectrum of musical innovation and tradition. Jesse studied both jazz and classical performance and has an extensive professional history as a vocal accompanist and coach. Jesse currently plays jazz, funk, opera, pop, R&B, electronica and classical music in New York City. He collaborated with writer/poet Gil Helmick and several improvising musicians in 2008 on the album, “Crimes Against Inhumanity,” available on Old Port Records.
Upcoming projects include work with Charlie Neville, a TriBeca music/theater/dance project called "Water in the Desert," music directing and piano for the upcoming radio show "Club 86," playing in Hollywood for an Oscars After-Party, and traveling to Australia to collaborate with notable playwright Shaun Charles and New Zealand's famous "Songbirds," Marla and Marissa. "Jesse Lynch is a brilliant and genre-defying pianist...capable of ferocious passion and tender subtlety at any given moment. Each week a different live band performs big band sounds from the 1930s and 1940s, along with other types of music, to keep the dance floor in a constant state of counterclockwise motion. Fox trot, waltz, cha-cha, tango, samba and even line dancing test the men's ability to remember their steps and turns while the women follow their lead.

The fourth annual “black and white" dinner/dance to raise funds for the homeless will be held on Nov. 9 at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center. The funds from the event will be used to support the operations of the winter shelter which serves the homeless in West Ventura County.
The Ventura District of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will hold the dinner dance from 6 pm to midnight. The theme for the event is "giving a little warmth to the ones left in the cold." Formal black and white attire will be required.
Since 2001, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has been operating the shelter during the winter months, alternating between the National Guard armories in Ventura and Oxnard. The Society expects that this year’s costs will run about $305,000 to operate the shelter for 4 months. The Society plans to open the shelter on December 1, 2013, as it did last year. If funds allow, the shelter will close on March 31, 2014. Music for the dance will be provided by Juano and Friends, a local band in Ventura County, consisting of Juan Garcia and his friends.

Live Nation presents comedian Anjelah Johnson for a Live Comedy Show!
Anjelah Johnson was born and raised in San Jose, California and is of Mexican and Native American descent. She is one of five children and has a large extended family that she remains close to. In the beginning of her career Johnson was a professional cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders. As an Oakland Raiderette, she was named Rookie of the Year and even performed in Super Bowl XXXVII. After that year she decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of acting.
She became an internet sensation with her viral video “Nail Salon” which led to many stand up and performance opportunities. That same year she joined the cast of “MADtv” as a series regular, which spawned another internet sensation “Bon Qui Qui.” This original character, a disgruntled fast food employee with no filter, has been enjoyed, viewed and replicated by over fifty-five million people worldwide. Recently, Anjelah recorded and released a full length rap song and music video as Bon Qui Qui with more tracks in the works. The song and the video are currently available on iTunes.
