DESCRIPTION Who were the first Americans and how did they come to populate North America? Join Dr. Ripan Malhi in a discussion of how DNA variation is used in the context of archaeological, linguistic, and other anthropological information to investigate the evolutionary history of Native Americans. Dr. Ripan Malhi, representing the Departments of Anthropology and Animal Biology and the Institute for Genomic Biology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, will participate in the Santa Barbara Symposium on Human Origins II: Dispersal of Early Humans, September 12-13, 2014. This pre-SOHO II lecture will focus on Dr. Malhi’s current ongoing molecular anthropology research and collaborations with First Nation groups of British Columbia.
