10/27/14 - Save the Date! Mozart by Candlelight Thanksgiving Concert -- 11/28

West Coast Chamber Orchestra's annual candlelit Thanksgiving celebration of the glorious music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, takes place on Friday, November 28th at 8 pm. The program, conducted by Founder/Conductor Christopher Story VI and Associate Conductor Dr. Michael Shasberger, will include Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 1 in F Major, K. 37 performed by pianist Michael Sikich, the Symphony No. 17 in G Major, K. 129, an arrangement for strings by Torga Karaca of the Rondo: Alla Turca from the Piano Sonata in A Major, K. 331, the Adagio for Violin and Orchestra in E Major, K. 261 performed by Concertmaster Tamsen Beseke, and the ever popular Serenade Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, K. 525.
Music Director Christopher Story VI will conduct the first half of the concert, and Michael Shasberger, Guest Conductor, will assume the podium after intermission.
Mozart by Candlelight Concert is a day-after Thanksgiving tradition that kicks off the holiday season. The Gothic-style, stone church venue with its soaring ceilings is well-suited to the vintage music.

West Coast Chamber Orchestra will perform a jubilant program featuring three masterworks by Superstar W.A. Mozart (1756-1791): Adagio in E Major for Violin & Orchestra (K261), Simphonie Concertante in A Major (K 364) and Symphony 17 in G (K129) - along with compositions by his celebrated contemporaries: Overture to Iphigénie en Aulide by Christoph Williband Gluck (1714 – 1787) and Sinfonia Veneziana by Antonio Salieri (1750-1825).

As a special Prelude to Summer, West Coast Chamber Orchestra will present its popular annual tradition heralding the beginning of summer in the Gothic inspired, gold sandstone Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Santa Barbara.
The concert includes Johann Sebastian Bach’s rarely-heard Lutheran Mass No. 2 in A Major and familiar cantata Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring - featuring the Santa Barbara Chamber Singers, under the baton of Guest Conductor, Dr. Michael Shasberger, Professor of Music and Worship at Westmont College.
Also on the program are some of composer Bach’s most jubilant 18th century hits: Oboe & Violin Concerto with Soloists Tamsen Beseke, Violin, and Kathy Bell Russo, Oboe; Air on G-String; Arioso, and Fifth Brandenburg Concerto with Frank Basile, Harpsichord.
Concertmaster Tamsen Beseke will play a violin crafted in 1780 by Stradivari disciple Giovanni Guadagnini. Music Director Christopher Story VI will conduct. Limited seating.

On the menu are three of the most popular Mozart masterworks: Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major (KV63), Symphony No.29 (K201), and Adagio for Violin & Orchestra (K261), with Guest Conductor Westmont’s Professor of Music, Michael Shasberger. As a special Mother’s Day treat, West Coast Chamber Orchestra celebrates its 30th Anniversary with an uplifting All Bach Concert dedicated to Moms. Now a popular springtime tradition, the program features the Premiere of the Triple Violin Concerto, under the baton of Guest Conductor, Dr. Michael Shasberger, Professor of Music and Worship at Westmont College, along with Bach’s 18th century hits Air on G-String; G-Minor Little Fugue; Arioso with Eugene Mechtovich, Viola; and the Fourth Brandenburg Concerto, with Sheridon Stokes, Flute. ----- Concertmaster Tamsen Beseke will be playing a rare Guadagnini violin, which was crafted in 1780 by Stradivari disciple Giovanni Guadagnini.
