The mission of the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is to share the story of human interaction with the sea, including the past, present, and future of California’s Central Coast, with a quality collection of artifacts, carefully researched and well crafted exhibits and innovative educational programs and activities that engage the imagination.
Among the most popular interactive exhibits are the virtual fishing exhibit, where you can “land the big one”, and an interactive pilothouse that lets you steer your yacht into the harbor.
Activities and lectures are available year round and information can be picked up at the museum kiosk. Update: The Maritime Museum is available for facility rental all day on Wednesdays and after hours every other day for corporate seminars, weddings, conventions, and a variety of other private events! Located at 113 Harbor Way in the Santa Barbara Waterfront Center, the museum's structure was formerly known as the Naval Reserve Center, which was built by the Federal Government's Works Project Administration (WPA) program during the late 1930s through early 1940s.
