Lu Ross   Laguna Beach, CA
Life is about following your passions. Two of mine are photography and travel. For me, traveling the world is as natural as breathing. I’m of French-Italian ancestry, raised in Santiago, Chile and later moved to the United States as a young adult. I obtained a B.A. in Mathematics/Statistics at the University of Chile, Santiago, initially pursuing a career in accounting and teaching when I moved to California.

My love for design led me to what amounted to 14 years as a web designer and webmaster where I developed expertise in numerous software programs such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Camera Raw, Lightroom and Flash. All the while, photography remained a passionate hobby as I captured the lives of my husband and two wonderful children, and the vacations we took throughout North America and Europe.

As technology changed the photography industry, the programs I learned as a web designer began to complement my photographic artistry and work flow. Once I realized that web design only partly satisfied my desire for creativity and art, I decided to pursue further education through the New York Institute of Photography.

As a photographer, I use natural light to capture moments of beauty – be that individuals, cultures or nature – to inspire and connect the viewer to the joy of life. It’s all about painting with light and telling a beautiful story. Shooting with natural light gives me freedom to travel the world in search of ideal locations and circumstances, as well as seek opportunities to help those in need. I always love to use my photography to contribute to a cause assisting the underprivileged.

Photographic Artist Lu Ross’ Photo “Reflections” Selected By Solvang’s Wildling Museum Of Art And Nature To Represent Yosemite National Park In Upcoming Exhibit “Celebrating National Parks In California”
Photographic Artist Lu Ross’ photo view of Yosemite’s Cathedral Rocks/Spires during sunrise, a limited edition titled “Reflections,” has been selected by Solvang’s Wildling Museum of Art and Nature as one of the photographs and art works to be displayed during the upcoming June 18 to October 3 exhibit “Celebrating National Parks in California.”
Ross is a permanent member and exhibitor at Quorum Art Gallery in Laguna Beach California, where her work has been available for view and purchase for a number of years. She has been featured in numerous publications, including Premiere OC (Orange County Magazine), Hobie Hotline Magazine, Dana Point’s visitors guide “Harboring the Good Life,” San Juan Capistrano Treasures, Laguna Beach Independent and many others.
“As a photographer, I love using natural light to capture moments of beauty,” explained Ross when asked about her work. “I took the image I call “Reflections” as the sun rose over Yosemite and hit the valley floor.”
“So much of photography is about the moment,” she continued. “When this image was taken, it was a very cold morning in April during a rainy year, one of those rare years when the plains flooded. Suddenly the sun bathed the valley and in that instant the full beauty of Yosemite came to life.”
For almost two decades, Solvang’s Wildling Museum of Art and Nature which will be exhibiting Ross’ image, has featured work which exemplifies its mission to inspire people through art to better understand and care for nature’s dwindling natural and wilderness areas. The Wildling Museum’s exhibitions have featured works by such notables as Ansel Adams, Georgia O’Keeffe, Maynard Dixon, Carl Oscar Borg and many others. The Museum also features contemporary artists whose work reflects the Museum’s dedication to bringing awareness to specific wilderness areas.
“I take great joy in using natural light to capture moments of beauty, be that individuals, cultures or nature,” concluded Ross, who studied through the New York Institute of Photography and is a member of Professional Photographers of America. “It’s all about painting with light to tell a beautiful story, to inspire and connect the viewer to the joy of life.”
The Wildling Museum of Art and Nature is located at 1511-B Mission Drive in Solvang. Museum hours for the June 18 to October 3 exhibit “Celebrating National Parks in California” are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 11:00 AM to 5 PM; Saturday and Sunday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, closed on Tuesdays. General Admission is $5.00, members of the military and children under 16 are free. Most exhibited works are available for sale as well as viewing.
