California's Wild Edge: The Coast in Poetry, Prints and History
Wildling Museum, 1511-B Mission Drive, Solvang CA

The exhibition captures the beauty of the California coast from Mendocino, Point Reyes, and the San Francisco Bay down through Carmel, Big Sur, Santa Barbara, and Santa Monica. Woodcut artist Tom Killionís prints combine exquisite color with dynamic composition to portray the coastís ever-changing moods and diverse formations: storm tides crashing at Point Lobos, serene moonlit coves at Mendocino, fog encircling the Golden Gate Bridge. Deepening the experience are poetry and prose from Gary Snyder and other well-known California poets of the past and present. The exhibition is originated by the San Francisco Public Library and is based on a new Heyday book by the same title.   ($5.00

Deepening the experience are poetry and prose from Gary Snyder and other well-known California poets of the past and present. The exhibition is originated by the San Francisco Public Library and is based on a new Heyday book by the same title.   ($5.00

The Glass Menagerie
Solvang Festival Theater, 420 2nd Street, Solvang CA

A faded remnant of Southern gentility, Amanda Wingfield lives in poverty in a dingy St. Louis apartment. Abandoned by her husband, Amanda comforts herself with recollections of her earlier, more gracious life in Blue Mountain when she was pursued by ďgentleman callers.Ē Her son Tom, a poet with a job in a warehouse, longs for adventure and escape from his mother's suffocating embrace, while Laura, her shy Ďcrippledí daughter, has her glass menagerie and her memories. Amanda is desperate to find her daughter a husband, but when the long-awaited gentleman caller does arrive, Laura's romantic illusions are crushed. A drama of great tenderness and beauty, The Glass Menagerie rightfully holds a place as a classic of modern American dramas.

Shrek The Musical
Solvang Festival Theater, 420 2nd Street, Solvang CA

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage, and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears. An unlikely hero finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand...and his name is Shrek. Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.
