10/7 - Save the Date! SB Blues Society presents Guitar Shorty -- Nov. 14 ... The Santa Barbara Blues Society, the oldest existing U.S. blues society, founded in March 1977, is proud to present the legendary Guitar Shorty. He is the former guitarist for Ray Charles and Sam Cooke. He is the winner of multiple blues awards. This is his first ever appearance for the SBBS.
Doors will open at 7:00 PM. There will be free BBQ snacks, an outdoor patio, and a large, spring-loaded dance floor.

The Santa Barbara Jazz Society is proud to present one of America’s premier artists, vocalist Wesla Whitfield in concert at SOhO. Jazz Society President, Ian Bernard writes: "About 14 years ago I did a summer symphony tour with Michael Feinstein and the opening act was a singer named Wesla Whitfield. Her choice of songs, her pure tone, and her presentation gave new meaning to the word perfection. I then heard her again at the Algonquin Hotel in New York and again was in awe of her interpretation of songs you’ve heard before in a combination of Cabaret, Jazz, and Broadway."

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s eighth annual KIRK DOUGLAS AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN FILM will be presented to Academy Award-winning actor JANE FONDA. Guests will gather to celebrate his achievements at this black-tie Gala dinner. Bonamassa will be backed by a stellar band of blues musicians including Anton Fig (drums), Michael Rhodes (bass), Reese Wynans (piano, Hammond organ), Lee Thornburg (trumpet, horn arrangements), Paulie Cerra (saxophone), and Nick Lane (trombone). A portion of the proceeds from this tour will go to the Keeping the Blues Alive (KTBA) foundation, a non-profit Bonamassa founded in 2011 and oversees to promote the heritage of the blues to the next generation, fund music scholarships, and supplement the loss of music education in public schools.
