9/8 - Mural Unveiling at Wildling, 5 p.m. Fri 9/9 ... Come to the Wildling for a free reception and unveiling of the museum's newest offering: a permanent wall mural of a Valley Oak Habitat by artist John Iwerks. City of Solvang Mayor Jim Richardson will help with the ceremonies and artist Iwerks will give a brief explanation of creating his 10' x 8' painting of an iconic part of our region's landscape.
8/15 - Save the Date! Eyes In the Sky Open House - October 16th - 10am-4:00pm ... Eyes in the Sky is the Santa Barbara Audubon Society’s educational outreach program, and is the only licensed raptor education program in Santa Barbara County. Our open house is your chance to get behind the scenes in the aviary. See the Raptors up close and personal! Discover for yourself how enthralling these birds can be and what gets the kids so excited over them. Bring the whole family! A fun filled day is sure to be had by all.

8/7 - Giraffe Calf Born at SB Zoo 8.6.2016 ... The Santa Barbara Zoo’s Masai giraffe Betty Lou gave birth to a calf on August 6 at 9:38am in the Zoo’s Giraffe Barn after approximately forty-five minutes of labor. The calf has been named “Parker” by donors, the Hutton Parker Foundation. The sex of the calf will be determined at a veterinary exam tomorrow morning, August 7th.
8/5 - Zoo Announces New Director of Animal Health & Care ... Santa Barbara Zoo’s Director of Animal Health Dr. Julie Barnes BVSc MSc has expanded her responsibilities to include Animal Care, it was announced by Zoo Director Nancy McToldridge today, August 5th, 2016.
In addition, two longtime members of the Animal Care team have been named curators. Mark Heully, who joined the Zoo in 2007 as Apprentice Keeper: Ectotherms, has been promoted to Curator of Ectotherms. Elizabeth Wilson, Elephant Keeper since 2006, has been named Curator of Elephants.

8/3 - Daily Whale Watching Report ... The continuous cacophony of hundreds of elegant terns calling back and forth all day provided a sharp musical accompaniment to the whale and common dolphin sightings. Captain Eric, along with his deckhand, “ojos de águila” Auggie, located 4 main foci of activity starting just outside Santa Barbara harbor, and ending about 7 miles north of beautiful Santa Cruz Island. Skies started with a thin stratus layer and ended with partly sunny skies. Temperatures were moderate all day. 7/21 - Nature Photography Competition Opening Reception July 23, 3 to 5 p.m. ... Over 100 entries were received for the annual Nature Photography Competition at the Wildling. This year's theme ranges from puddles to ice to the ocean, all showcasing Where Land Meets Water. The exhibition runs from July 23 - October 17, 2016. 7/7 - Artist Talk This Sunday ... Join wildlife artist Ivanie Finsvik for an artist talk at the Wildling Museum of Art and Nature, Sunday, July 10 at 3 p.m. Ivanie's pastels are vibrant portraits of wild animals and her techniques and inspiration will be explored. She will also bring prints to sell. Ivanie is the museum's current Featured Local Artist in the gift shop. $5 members, $10 general public.
6/17 - Opening Reception for "Celebrating the National Parks of California" ... On Friday, June 17 at 5:30 to 7:30 the Wildling Museum of Art and Nature will host an opening reception for their newest show, a juried exhibition called "Celebrating the National Parks of California". Enjoy live music, meet many of the participating artists, watch the awards presentation and more. A delegation from the Channel Islands National Park Service will be in attendance to help acknowledge the Centennial of the National Park Service, part of the inspiration of the exhibition.
5/24 - Maritime History, Classic Train Car, and Wine Tasting! ... Last Year’s Classic Ride was so successful, we decided to do it again. August 14th, you can have the thrill of riding aboard a classic train car, on a roundtrip to San Luis Obispo, listening to SBMM Executive Director Greg Gorga tell tales of local maritime history, while seeing the sights and tasting local wines.

5/24 - Sonic Sea Film Screening + Q&A ... Lecture presented by Jean-Michele Cousteau & Lauren Cuervo. Sonic Sea is a 60-minute documentary about the impact of industrial and military noise on whales and other marine life.
